The Avatar has always been one of my favorite models to field, especially with how many units I normally field on foot. It is a very intimidating model to paint, and I've been putting it off until now.
I began with a Skull White base-coat, followed by a coat of Sunburst Yellow. I then applied a coat of Blazing Orange, trying my best to avoid some of the deeper crevices in the armor to preserve the yellow. I then did a coat of Red Gore on the armor plates using a wetter brush to let the orange shine through a bit, giving it a lava look. The photo doesn't give the model justice, and it's much less pink than it looks. I then dry brushed the model with Chaos Black to get a charred look over the plates, which allowed the orange-yellow crevices to be preserved. This was followed by the detail work: Highlighting the raised edges of the armor plates with Blazing Orange, painting the gold shoulder plates/gauntlets, and the white highlights. All that's left to do is either painting a design or applying decals to the white cloth.
