1000 Point Scenario Day - Game 1

(Transferred from another blog.  Originally published 6/18/16)

Today was a scenario day at one of our local game shops.  All battles for the day were drawn from the Breakthrough mission in the Stronghold Assault book.  The first game of the day was against Astra Militarum Tempestus (Imperial Guard).  I brought my Dark Angels to the event.

Scenario:  Breakthrough (from the Stronghold Assault book)
Table and Deployment:  Woodland forest with Hammer and Anvil
Warlord Traits:  Dark Angels rolled Divide to Conquer on the Strategic Trait chart (-1 to enemy reserve rolls.  Imperial Guard rolled Master of Ambush and the Strategic Trait chart to give his Warlord and three units infiltrate.

Deployment:  In this game, the Dark Angels were the defenders, needing to control three objective markers and destroy as many of his units as possible.  I deployed along the edge of my deployment with nothing but an empty drop pod in reserve.  The building turned on its side with the marines on top is a Bastion with a Quad Gun, and there is another squad of marines inside manning the heavy bolter.  He deployed his Tauroxes on my table edge using his infiltrate warlord trait.

Dark Angels Turn 1:
Everything turned to shoot his Taurox with the unit equipped with meltaguns inside.  It was wrecked with combined shooting from the Land Raider, Quad Gun, Lascannon, and Cyclone Missile Launcher, securing first blood.  The terminators then charged the unit that got out, and dealt enough wounds to wipe them.  I failed to get pictures of this turn.

Imperial Guard Turn 1:
The two remaining Tauroxes drove off my table edge to secure him 4 victory points from the attacker mission objectives.  He shot the Land Raider with his Vindicare Assassin but failed to penetrate, and the squad of guardsmen on foot moved up.  I also failed to get pictures of this turn.

Dark Angels Turn 2:
The terminators moved and ran up the board.  The storm bolter on the drop pod killed a model from the guard squad.  The dreadnought moved and ran up the board.  The marine squads in the bastion failed to do any damage with their shooting, but the land raider was able to kill a couple models from the remaining guard squad with the assault cannon.  They failed their morale check and fell back 8" toward their table edge.

Imperial Guard Turn 2:
The Valkyrie came in from reserves and moved 36" down the field.  The remaining squad of guardsmen failed their regroup and fell back further toward their table edge.  The assassin tried shooting at the land raider, but failed to hit.

Dark Angels Turn 3:
Everything tried to move toward the Valkyrie to get some damage on it before it flies off the table to secure more victory points, but everything failed to hit or do damage to it.

Imperial Guard Turn 3:
The Valkyrie flew off the board to secure 3 more victory points.  The assassin shot and took a hull point from the Land Raider with a penetrating hit, but rolled a 1 on the damage chart to cause shaken.  The guardsmen squad regrouped and moved toward the Dark Angels table edge.

Dark Angels Turn 4:
The lascannon in the marine squad on top of the bastion shot at the assassin and failed to hit.  Everything else shot at the remaining guard squad, and killed all but one model.  The warlord was double-tough instant deathed by the cyclone missile launcher.  The remaining model in the squad was pinned because the squad had gone to ground.

Imperial Guard Turn 4:
The assassin shot again at the land raider, and glanced it to remove another hull point.

Dark Angels Turn 5:
The land raider moved up to kill the last model from the guard squad with its flamestorm cannon.  Everything else moved toward the assassin, and shot at him.  The only thing that successfully hit and wounded was the snap-fired quad gun, which successfully removed two wounds from him.

Imperial Guard Turn 5:
Nothing of note happened, and the game failed to go on.

Game Results:
15-7 Dark Angels

The Dark Angels scored 15 points total for controlling all 3 objectives for 3 victory points each, completely destroying 4 units, slay the warlord, line-breaker, and first blood.  The Imperial Guard scored 7 points for successfully moving two full Tauroxes and a Valkyrie off my table edge.  Very unique scenario, and a good game!
